Indian Patent office starts functioning as International Searching Authority and International Preliminary Examining Authority under the PCT.

The Indian Patent Office has achieved yet another milestone in the history of Indian patent system as The Indian Patent Office starts functioning as International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) from 15th October, 2013.

The office has ensured access to patent and non-patent literature covering the PCT minimum documentation which can be accessed through IPATS, an advanced Search Engine powered for integrated search through different databases. More importantly, stress is laid on quality in all IPO operations and the office is in the process of strengthening the Quality Management System. The Indian Patent Office was recognized as ISA/IPEA under the PCT in the year 2007 and entered into agreement with WIPO on 25th September 2013.
